![]() ![]() When you find an injector that’s not making any noise, that’s the one you should take a look at. Listen and compare the sounds they produce. To identify where the problem is, place an automotive or mechanic’s stethoscope on each injector. When the engine is running, the valve fitted at the end of the fuel injector opens and closes repeatedly to let fuel into the intake runner. Step 2: Check for noise using an automotive stethoscope Fits Automotive scanners are also useful in identifying a break in the circuit. It will normally generate a diagnostic trouble code for the bad injector. Step 1: Use an automotive scan tool to identify a bad fuel injector FitsĪn automotive scan tool is an electronic device that can help you determine which cylinder is misfiring. ![]() The following steps will help you to just do that. If you experience symptoms of a bad fuel injector, there are four ways you can go about finding the bad injector. The valves move in and out repeatedly to atomize the fuel and send it to the engine cylinders. They also have wires connected to the side that power them, ground them, and help to control their valves. How does multi-port injection work?Ī typical multi-port injection system features a fuel rail that sends pressurized fuel first into the fuel injectors, then into the intake runners, and into the combustion chamber through the intake valves.įuel injectors have an electromagnet just near the nozzle that’s controlled by the PCM. In this post, we’ll take a look at multi-port injection – the middle ground between the two mechanisms and the most commonly used. Newer vehicles use direct injection, where the fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber. Some older cars use a TBI – a ‘throttle body injection’ mechanism that injects fuel directly into the throttle body. In a typical engine, each cylinder will have its own fuel injector. ![]() The fuel is passed through a nozzle that helps to distribute it evenly for optimum efficiency and combustion. What is a fuel injector?Ī fuel injector is a valve mechanism designed to spray liquid fuel erratically into an engine cylinder. In this post, we will teach you how to diagnose a bad fuel injector, how to determine where the problem is, and how to fix it. You can also have a misfire when there’s an issue with the spark plugs, the wires connected to the spark plugs, or the ignition coils. My quick fix was to loosen the bolt to the box and push the box in as much as possible and re tighten the bolt and so far seems to have worked. I saw that there was a little play with the connector and once i applied pressure to the the box (that houses the wiring and also holds the connector in place) the injector would kick on and i could instantly feel the engine smooth out. I used a long flat heads screw driver to listen if the injector was working and that's when i noticed the retainer clip was missing. Luckily its on Cyl 5 which is easy access. Long story short is after following all the data i've read in this and other forums and eliminating the other possibilities came down to fuel injectors or wiring. In my case the connector is definitely the problem. Any autoparts store that stocks replacement pigtails will have it. ![]() The repair connector is a standardized Bosch part design, used by about everyone. I'm not saying the problem isn't the connector, but it's not going to simply be a missing clip. If the boxes are installed correctly, the connector can not move around, clip or not. I must say, most every M62 I have seen has been missing at least one clip, usually more. ![]()
